13. Notes on Website Edition July 2021.

The Publicity Team had great plans for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

At the time of the Golden Jubilee in 2010, the history of the Community Centre was updated in the form of the booklet Acorn to Noble Oak.

One of the aims of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations was to produce another update.

A draft booklet was prepared awaiting:

• Details and photos of a week of activities and events.
   
• An update of some content, e.g. lists of officers and contacts in Sections 9-12.

The Covid-19 pandemic put paid to most of the plans. All the events and activities were cancelled and the idea of the new booklet was shelved.

It was the submission of a further selection of photos by Nick Saunders, that generated the idea of turning the content into a website edition.

The additional photos are shown as an Appendix.

The edition is virtually the same as the draft booklet that was shelved. Publishing the edition in the website has provided a different layout, of course, but more scope.

The few changes, in addition to the photos from Nick Saunders are:

• Expanding the wording of Section 3 Early Days.
   
• Moving some of the other photos, including two from what would have been the back page of the booklet, to the text of this edition.
   
• The addition of an account of the planting of the rose Diamond Days.
   
• Updating the lists in sections, 9, 11, and 12.
   
• Significant changes in the Executive Committee in late 2020 shown below, following the delayed AGM and the retirement of 3 long-standing members.
   
• This explanation.

November 2020.

"Phyllis Inglis, Marie Morgan and Betty McNie, were particularly thanked on their "retirement" and presented with flowers and wine.

The President and Chairman stood down, and Glen Kennedy was elected as Chairman. A Vice Chair will be appointed by the Executive Committee at its next meeting.

From the New Chairman.

"The AGM went very well. All nine members of the Executive Committee, three Trustees and twenty-two members attended - numbers being limited by the Covid-19 restrictions.

One of my first pleasant duties as Chairman was to make a retirement presentation to Phyllis Inglis, for her sterling work as President and committee member over several years and to Marie Morgan, for her long term on the committee and final two years as a dedicated, enthusiastic Chairman. Thanks go to both for all they have done and we wish them a happy "retirement".

I was also able to thank Betty McNie, and present her with a bouquet. She has given dedicated service over several years, both on the committee and managing our catering facility.

Those present were unanimous in voting in Malcolm Swan, as our new President - a respected and long-standing member of the Centre. Happily, he was very pleased to accept the role.

All current members of the Executive were re-elected, along with Chris Waters, taking on a new role of Liaison Advisor."

Conclusion.

It is good to end this edition on the positive note expressed at the AGM.

This edition has not been scrutinised and edited as it would have been if it had been the intention to publish it as a physical booklet. Nonetheless the edition gives a snapshot of the Community Centre in September 2020 with a potted history and collection of photos and recollections, that I hope will be of interest to visitors to the website.
